Position summary
The Director of Development reports to the Vice President for University Advancement and is responsible for assisting the Vice President in leading Andrews University in its comprehensive fundraising campaign and directing the major gifts program, including outright and deferred individual gifts, corporate, and foundation gifts.
Qualifications summary

- The successful candidate should have a demonstrable tract record of fundraising success.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Prepares and manages the departmental operating budget.
- Cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of prospects that includes travel to various locations.
- Prepares and oversees written proposals to individual donors, informational materials, gift illustrations, and other materials to secure major gifts.
- Identifies key donors and supports efforts of Vice President and President in portfolio development and strategic visitation.
- Develops and implements with development staff participation, an annual plan and report that is aligned with Andrews’ strategic plan.
- Works collaboratively with the Advancement team – Planned Giving, Alumni, and the Howard Performing Arts Center, to forward the goals of University Advancement.
- Coordinates with Vice President and Major Gift Officers in organizing and implementing regional donor dinners.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice-President for University Advancement.
- Manages the President’s Council in collaboration with the President, Vice President for Advancement and President’s Council co-chairs by strategizing focus and outcome of fall and spring meetings; communicating campus updates and news regularly; ensuring that all member visited periodically; and ensuring that all members are solicited annually.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Supervises and evaluates staff in the areas of Annual Fund, Prospect Research, Donor Records Administration and Major Gift Officers.
- Supervises, mentors, and assists Major Gift Officers to ensure effective relationship building and solicitation of assigned portfolio of donors. Leads team meetings in identifying and assessing moves management for major prospects; developing and implementing a solicitation strategy for each assigned major gift prospect.

Technical competencies
Is proficient and comfortable in operating a PC for such reasons as sending and receiving e-mail, operating word processing and spreadsheet software, and navigating the internet when appropriate.
Has the ability to operate the local personal computer, printer, telephone, calculator, fax machine, and GPS.
Interpersonal interactions
Must have a respect for individuals from varied backgrounds and cultures; Have the ability to positvely relate to young and older persons alike. Must exhibit a servant leadership style of management and be comfortable leading a team in achieving set goals while utilzing the varied gifts and talents of each team member.
Physical demands

Work environment
Most work will be either in an office setting or in locations where travel and donor meetings take place. (e.g. Airports, Restaurants etc.)
