Facts About Andrews University
Founded in 1874 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Andrews
University began as Battle Creek College in Battle Creek, Michigan. In
1901, the College was moved to Berrien Springs, Michigan, and in 1960 was
reorganized as Andrews University.
Today Andrews enrolls approximately 3,000 students from more than
90 countries. Close to 300 full-time faculty and 75 part-time faculty teach
in over 200 different academic programs. The student-faculty ratio is about
16:1. The University is composed of the College of Arts and Sciences, College
of Technology, Division of Architecture, School of Business, School of
Education, School of Graduate Studies, and the Seventh-day Adventist Theological
Seminary.
The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools has granted
accreditation to Andrews University at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral
levels. A number of other educational and professional organizations have
also granted accreditation or approval to individual departments and programs
within the University.
Located in the rich farm land of southwest Michigan, Andrews University
is just 145 km from the city of Chicago. Known for its many cultural attractions,
Chicago is also home to consulates from many countries. The campus is close
to many recreation areas and a short 15-minute drive from the spectacular
coastline of Lake Michigan. The nearby cities of St. Joseph and Benton
Harbor, just 25 km from campus, offer a variety of shopping opportunities.
Excellent shopping is also available just 40 km away in South Bend, Indiana.
Food and many essentials are available within walking distance of the campus.
Weather Information
The weather in southwest Michigan is characterized by four distinct seasons.
Students should bring appropriate seasonal clothing, but should be prepared
for variations in the weather.

Winter (November through March): Very cold with frequent snow and strong
winds.
Student Conduct and Lifestyle
Many of the students attending Andrews University are members of the Seventh-Day
Adventist Church. However, students of any religious affiliation are welcome.
As a conservative Christian university, Andrews holds high ideals for its
students. Because the faculty are interested in the students' well-being,
ACTION
AMERICA participants will be expected to refrain from using
tobacco and alcoholic beverages on campus. Only vegetarian meals are served
in the food service facilities. Students will be expected to dress modestly
and abide by dormitory rules.
Housing
The overall cost of the program covers housing in men's and women's dormitories
and includes linens, blankets, and towels. Roommates will be assigned unless
preferences are stated three weeks before arrival. Students who wish to
may arrange for their own food and housing. The overall fee will be reduced
accordingly.
Insurance
All international students must either show proof of health insurance that
is recognized in the United States or purchase coverage through Andrews.
Transportation from Airport
Students must fly into the South Bend, Indiana Airport, where an Andrews
representative will meet them. Students should notify ACTION
AMERICA of arrival times and dates, airlines, and flight numbers.
