Position summary
Department of English is seeking a director of the Center for Intensive English Programs at Andrews University. The director will provide leadership to CIEP faculty, staff, and students and teach courses in CIEP and the English department as required.
- Provide leadership to CIEP faculty and staff
- Supervise daily operations of CIEP, including coordinating classes, teachers, and classroom space; ordering textbooks and auxiliary materials; planning CIEP field trips
- Participate and/or advise in the recruitment of international students for CIEP initiatives such as Action America
- Contribute to academic orientation for all incoming ESL students
- Test, place, monitor, and advise ESL students regarding classes, programs, and schedules
- Advise students in the English language Bridge program and liaison between CIEP students and academic advisors
- Stay informed of current SEVIS regulations
- Plan, budget, and manage program finances in cooperation with English department chair
- Participate in strategic planning and assessment, staffing decisions, and performance evaluations
- Consult with external ESL/EFL programs (i.e., Andrews Academy ESL program)
- Teach courses for Department of English and/or CIEP as negotiated.
Qualifications summary
- PhD Linguistics, English, or related field preferred
- Evidence of effective ESL/EFL teaching and administration in higher education
- Administrative and international experience highly desired
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with colleagues, other faculty, administration, community, and international studentsâ‹
- Evidence of potential for scholarly research and publication
- Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing
