Position summary
The Associate Chaplain is in integral part of the Andrews University Office of Campus Ministries which is grounded in the mission of the Seventh-Day-Adventist Church.The Associate Chaplain provides faith development opportunities and spiritual care for students, faculty and staff, enriches the spiritual and intellectual life of campus, assists in building a vibrant University community of faith and learning and helps further the lofty mission of Andrews University to Seek Knowledge, Affirm Faith and Change the World.
Qualifications summary
The Campus Ministries office is seeking to build a team with a diversity of experience, skills, gifts, and backgrounds that includes the following:
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- The Associate Chaplain will work closely with all campus fellowships and be an integral part of the New Life campus fellowship.
- The Associate Chaplain provides leadership in the areas of Campus Ministries community development and outreach as well as to faith-development student clubs.
- The Associate Chaplain fosters faith-development initiatives and spiritual care within the graduate student population.
- The Associate Chaplain is supported by the University Chaplain and an additional Associate chaplain as well as student chaplains.
- Assists in strategic planning, implementation and assessment processes for comprehensive faith development programming.
- Assists in processes that intentionally seek to build positive relationships between students and Chaplains and engage students in the spiritual life of campus.
- Is responsible for the budget for all programs in his/her direct down line of programming.
- Maintains professional growth through involvement in professional organizations and other activities such as Campus Ministries programs and missions.
- Participates in Campus Ministries committees.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Supervises student chaplains
- Mentors Student leaders in Campus ministries.
Qualifications
- A gifted spiritual leader with a deep love for God and others.
- Demonstrated effectiveness and passion for faith development of young adults.
- M.Div. preferred.
- Master’s Degree Required.
- Credentialed/Commissioned/Ordained.
- Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Technical competencies
The Associate Chaplain should possess competent computer skills.
Interpersonal interactions
Must be comfortable and effective working with the diverse population of Andrews University that includes students, faculty, and staff. Must have a warm and friendly personality. Must have a willing and passionate desire to help others. Must be willing to train and supervise students, and also interact on a professional level with faculty and staff. Must be a team player who will be an active participant in fostering a warm and vibrant office atmosphere with a philosophy of servant leadership.
Physical demands
The physical demands of the Associate Chaplain are very active, engaging and demanding. These physical demands must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Work environment
The associate chaplain works in various campus and community environments as well as in an office setting.
