Position summary

This is a supervisory position for Imaging Services, which provides film and photography equipment rental, large-format printing, and sales of relevant materials for photography classes and others in the Department of Visual Art & Design. Requires student worker training and supervision, and financial management of all rental and sales transactions.

Duties and responsibilities

Researches, purchases and keeps inventory of relevant materials including photo papers and inks, mounting and laminating materials, and office supplies for Imaging Services. 
Researches, purchases and keeps inventory of film, various photography products, inkjet and darkroom papers, media storage, mounting and archiving supplies for the Photo Store. 
Maintains computers and printers.
Maintains Rental Cage photo equipment; sets and charges appropriate rental and replacement fees. 
Purchases equipment replacements and keeps inventory of rental equipment and products necessary for maintaining Rental Cage equipment.
Closes books and submits student charges on a monthly basis; evaluates profit and loss reports.
Researches current market prices to obtain and set prices structured for comparable Photo Store products and printing and mounting services, provides students with discounted printing/mounting costs and with minimally marked-up photo store products.
Hires, trains, and schedules student employees, gives semester reviews to employees to provide feedback; handles all disciplinary actions and terminations.
Trains employees to print, mount, and laminate; to handle store transactions and charges; to check, clean, diagnose problems with, and maintain rental equipment.
Pays close attention to customer service issues, addressing complaints and resolving issues immediately.
Observes current trends in industry and updates software, hardware, equipment, and products accordingly.
Prepares documents containing price lists, policies, procedures and training manuals for employee reference.
Produces and supervises production of prints, mounts, and lamination.
Builds and maintains relationships with vendors, clients, and students.

Supervisory responsibilities

Directly supervises 4 student employees; student employees are cross-trained in both imaging services and equipment rental. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with University policies.
Responsibilities include training employees; creating work schedules; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or 3 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret instructional manuals for hardware, software, photo and video equipment.  Ability to assemble and troubleshoot most problems. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as prices for products, services, discounts, percentages, and charging for square foot printing/mounting.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only a limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret manuals, assemble and troubleshoot equipment. 
Ability to set reasonable labor schedules that can be supported by the business.

Technical competencies

Must be able to navigate Mac computers. Must be fluent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Photoshop CS5, ImagePrint, QuickBooks, and Booking Point.

Must interact comfortably with all people who interact with this business: students, faculty, staff, and public clients. Must have a warm and friendly personality. Must be willing to help clients according to their needs.
Must be willing to train and supervise students, and also interact on a professional level with all clients.  Must be a team player and fit comfortably in environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is required to talk or hear.
