Position summary
Staff counselor at the Andrews University Counseling & Testing Center. Provides individual, couple, and group counseling. Serves as career development liaison and carries out other career development activities as determined by the CTC Director. Participates in outreach presentations to assist students in achieving more effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment. Maintains an assigned case load, and provides consultations on issues related to mental health.
Qualifications summary
Master's Degree in counseling or Social Work from a regionally accredited academic institution. Licensed in the State of Michigan
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities

Provides counseling/psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and groups to assist in gaining insight into personal problems, to define goals, & to plan action reflecting interests, abilities, and needs
- Provides career counseling
- Collects assessment data about clients through use of clinical interview, case history, and observational techniques.
- Selects, administers, and interprets psychological tests designed to assess individual's personality functioning, intelligence, aptitudes, abilities, and interests.
- Reviews results of tests with clients as clinically appropriate.
- Assesses data gathered to develop treatment plan or referral to appropriate agency.
- Follows up results of counseling by participating in research to determine the outcome of the services provided.
- Participates/attends professional growth seminars to develop and improve diagnostic and counseling skills.
- Provides consultation services to individuals/groups with concerns about students whom they directly service.
- Presents workshops/seminars to help individuals achieve more effective personal, spiritual, social, educational and vocational development and adjustment.
- Consults with other psychologists, counselors, and/or medical doctors concerning treatment plan and/or medication evaluation.
- Refers clients to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling.
- Maintains assigned case load – completes intakes, progress notes and termination summaries.
- Respects the confidentiality of each client.
- Participates in supervision with the Director and other professional staff.
- Maintains the high ethical standards required by the profession.
Supervisory responsibilities
Will be supervising graduate intern counselors.
Qualifications

A master's degree in counseling or Social Work from a regionally accredited academic institution.

Licensed in the State of Michigan.

Exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills including a collaborative and team oriented work style.

The ability to multitask in a changing, dynamic environment.

Experience developing positive relationships and partnerships.

Demonstrated proficiency in using career assessment instruments. (e.g., Strong Interest Inventory, Myers Briggs Type Indicator, StrengthsQuest).

Demonstrated proficiency designing and delivering presentations.

Demonstrated proficiency using MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint; and working knowledge of career services management software (e.g., NACElink, Symplicity).
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
