Position summary

Undergraduate Distance Education Counselor is responsible for recruiting and communicating to undergraduate prospective distance students. They oversee the admission process, assists with registration for distance degree seeking and guest students, as well as do some advising. They work in collaboration with School of Distance Education, Integrated Marketing and Communication, Academic Records and Student Finances to meet the needs of undergraduate distance students.

Qualifications summary

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree or multiple years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
REQUIRED SKILLS
Management skill to supervise student workers, comfortable speaking in public and interacting with young people, parents and educational professionals. Must possess strong leadership skills, planning and organization skills, excellent communication skills and must have a good understanding of databases and major software suites (Microsoft).


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

-Oversees processing of distance applications and interest for guest students, degree students and high school students taking university courses
-Provides support for distance students with applying, registering, and financial student questions and issues
-Provides troubleshooting help with registration issues and remote computer access 
-Provides advising support for prospective students 
-Collaborates with School of Distance Education and Integrated Marketing and Communication on strategies for communication, marketing and recruiting to prospective undergraduate distance students
-Works with Communication Systems Coordinator to manage communication plans to interest, applicants and accepted students using email, letters and phone calls
-Follows up with prospective students after college fairs, visits and events
-Manages travel expenses and budget for assigned areas and provide accurate documentation
-Explore new markets/options for undergraduate distance students
-Assist as assigned with the Preview Weekends and other Enrollment Events
-Actively participates in assigned meetings with recruiters, departments and combined meetings with Student Financial Services

Supervisory responsibilities

-Manages the hiring, training and supervising of 2-3 student workers

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Technical competencies

-Needs to have broad-based technological understanding, preferably with a working knowledge of Banner. These skills must include the ability to use spreadsheets and be strong in word processing.
