Position summary
The Andrews University Department of Physics seeks applicants for a full time, tenure-track faculty appointment in Physics at a rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor commensurate with qualifications.
Qualifications summary
The successful candidate will qualify in terms of their excellence in physics, both in teaching and research, and will be characterized by collegiality, ethical behavior, commitment to student engagement and a spiritual nurture.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Carrying the equivalent of 24 contact hours of teaching, constituting approximately 70% of full-time effort - unless otherwise negotiated
- Establishing a productive research program - preferably including undergraduate students
- Academic advising and recruitment
- Involvement in Departmental activities and decision making
Supervisory responsibilities
Supervising research, teaching, learning and laboratory assistants
Qualifications
- Graduate degree in physics or related area - a PhD is preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching with an understanding of undergraduate learning practices, methodologies and application in the context of physics education
- Active research that inspires and engages undergraduate students
- Commitment to Seventh-day Adventist beliefs and mission.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Physical demands
While performing some of the duties of this job, the employee will be responsible for carrying, handling, and operating a computer, laboratory equipment, and teaching technology equipment. Must have the ability to efficiently access information in references and texts, prepare and present lectures, and lead out and participate in group discussions and work. Visual demands regularly include close work.
