Position summary
The Center for Adventist Research seeks an innovative and creative digital asset manager to join the Adventist Digital Library (ADL) team, a highly collaborative and innovative unit that provides Adventist digital resources to users across the world. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a broad understanding of contemporary digital scholarship, and have experience with one or more digital methodologies, i.e. text analysis, mining, data visualization, or digital archives. They will also have experience creating and managing digital projects, and engaging in research that extends materials into the digital space. Working in the digitization department requires the ability to manage working on both fast paced, highly experimental, and short-lived projects, as well as long-term, large scale projects that span several years. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, good problem solving skills, and the ability to manage ambiguity are essential.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Computer Science) and at least two years’ experience in a digital asset management or related position.
- Experience with metadata mapping, extraction, and embedding tools, such as Adobe Bridge, MARC Edit, and DAMS products.
- Understanding of digital asset lifecycle: capture, formats and codecs, metadata, color management, file conversion, dissemination, etc.
- Working knowledge of basic programming languages, including Ruby on Rails, Java, PHP, and SQL.
- Self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity.
- Ability to conceptualize, articulate and identify meaningful success measures for strategic and near-term goals.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment with a high degree of accountability.
- Strong commitment to building and nurturing positive relationships among users and colleagues with a proven ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Proven willingness to pursue additional educational and skills development to complement ongoing technological advances.
- Be a member of the Seventh-day Adventist church.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Arts in Digital Asset Management or MLS from an ALA accredited school with digtal experience.
- Hands-on experience with platforms and technologies including (but not limited to) Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Document Management, FTP, Adobe Creative Suite, ABBYY, etc.
- Experience with mass digitization projects.
- Experience with large project planning.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Oversees the day-to-day administration of an enterprise-level digital asset management system (DAMS).
- Liaise with Information Systems and external vendors to maintain DAMS stability and accomplish necessary systems back-ups, customizations, integrations, and hardware/software upgrades.
- Review specifications for digitization projects and develop workflows for the incorporation of digital assets into DAMS.
- Collaborate with external vendors regarding technological frameworks to support ADL projects, for example, but not limited to: website design platforms for digital curation and description; data modeling and collection for visualization or text analysis; or web-based tools for social reading, writing, or annotation.
- Ingest, organize, describe, and disseminate collections-related digital assets.
- Consult with the ADL Manager to develop digital projects to support the mission of ADL.
- Manage, in cooperation with the ADL Manager, the clean-up, organization, and maintenance of current collections-related digital assets.
- Collaborate with the James White Library Bibliographic Services to ensure appropriate data management practices.
- Represent ADL in professional forums and conferences.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the ADL Manager and the Center’s administration team.
Supervisory responsibilities
- The Digital Asset Manager will supervise student assistants and other staff as needed with the direct approval of the ADL Manager.

- The Digital Asset Manager will have extensive written, verbal, and in-person contact with a wide variety of on and off campus staff.
- Ability to work in a team environment toward team goals, but also able to work individually for long periods of time.
- Able to work well in a structured environment but yet with ambiguous procedures as those procedures are in a state of being formed.
- Comfortable working with others and supervising other staff or student workers.
- Able to express needs confidently to service providers, technical personnel, and digital asset providers. The latter may not be very technical themselves.
Physical demands
- Ability to work in a typical office setting with a mix of sitting and standing required.
- Ability to concentrate on the task at hand for prolonged periods of time with limited breaks.
- Some lifting of up to 50 pounds is necessary.
- Ability to pick up and otherwise manage computer and related hardware is necessary.
- Ability to work inside computers as may be necessary.
