FLIGHT SCHOOL - Faculty-Aviation

Position summary

This position will teach undergraduate courses in the aviation flight, including teaching advanced aviation flight topics for the ATP CTP program; be the assistant chief flight instructor with responsibilities in the FAA part 141 flight school; flight instruct in single and multi-engine aircraft; maintain active research; and advise students and other academic related responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications summary

Successful applicants will possess at least a Bachelor’s degree. A PhD or Masters in aviation or a related field is perfered.
Applicants must hold a ATP Multi-engine class – and have at least 2 years of:  PIC/SIC under Part 121, or PIC Part 135.243(a)(1), or PIC 91.1053(a)(2)(i).
Current, or previously held and eligible to renew Certified Flight Instructor, Instrument Instructor, and Multi-engine Instructor certificates (Equivalent US military experience will be considered).
Prior experience in FAA part 141 flight schools, turbine engine type ratings, mission or bush flying experience is highly desirable. A&P certificate is a plus.
Technology proficient (MS Office, iPad, online scheduling).


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

Teaching current or developing new classes leading the completion of the FAA ATP-CPT program. 
Teaching flight and ground school classes in the department's Part 141 flight program.
Preforming stage check flight tests for the  Part 141 curriculum.
Assisting with the administration and oversight of the 141 flight program.
Providing primary, advanced and multi-engine flight instruction in the department's aircraft.
Maintaining active research including involving students in that research.
Providing academic advising to current flight students.
Other academic and committee responsibilities as assigned.

Supervisory responsibilities

Assisting with the supervision of the student flight instructors.
Assisting with the weekly supervision of all flight line activities.

Technical competencies

Applicants must hold a  FAA ATP Multi-engine class land airplane license. 
Must have at least 2 years of:  PIC/SIC under Part 121, or PIC Part 135.243(a)(1), or PIC 91.1053(a)(2)(i) or acceptable equivalant military experience.
Must be able to pass and maintain a FAA second class physical.

Physical demands

Must be able to perform basic aircraft line support functions including moving aircraft, fueling, and loading aircraft.

Work environment

In addition to teaching in the classroom, the applicant must be able to workout side on the aircraft flight line in all types of Michigan weather.  Must be able to get into and out of Piper single and multi-engine aircraft.
