Position summary
The research coordinator holds a faculty appointment and has administrative, academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Physical Therapy Department. Primary responsibilities are to plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor all research activities on behalf of the academic department and to teach within the department of Physical Therapy.

Duties and responsibilities
Activities include but are not limited to the following:
- Promote the mission and vision of the university and the physical therapy department.
- Assume leadership of the Research curricular component.
- Teach research design, methodology, statistics and other courses as assigned by the department chair to equal a full-time teaching load.
- Initiate, monitor, and refine the annual student research component of the curriculum.
- Develop quality learning experiences that promote critical thinking in the students’ research experience.
- Educate and mentor Entry-level students, Postprofessional students, and faculty regarding various aspects of research.
- Coordinate work with colleagues and peers as well as work independently.
- Regularly assess the research education components of the curriculum including student outcomes.
- Prepare course materials, deliver lectures, administer and grade student assignments/examinations, including the Capstone experience.
- Compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
- Work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Design and conduct independent and/or collaborative research in particular field of knowledge.
- Present and publish research findings in peer-reviewed forums.
- Perform related duties such as advising students on academic and vocational curricula, and act as adviser to student organizations.
- Serve on department and university committees as assigned.
- Participate in curriculum development and evaluation.
- Evening hours may be required.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Supervise adjunct faculty within the research track.
- Supervise students, student workers and graduate assistants in their assigned tasks.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Earned advanced doctorate preferred (academic or professional). Entry-level doctorate candidates must be willing to pursue an Andrews University sponsored advanced doctorate degree within one year of hire date.
- At least two years of teaching and research experience.
- Physical therapist degree preferred, but not required.
- Current knowledge and experience in the use of information and computer applications, such as Microsoft Office, statistical analysis tools, spreadsheets, digital media for classroom application, online learning platforms and the internet or proven ability to learn these skills.
- Track record of ongoing research with publications and/or presentations in peer reviewed journals and venues preferred.
- Superior communication, organization, presentation, interpersonal, advising and customer service skills.
- Creative and innovative problem-solving skills required.
- Ability to utilize different methods and mediums in delivering course materials.
- Exhibits a willingness to adhere to the SDA principles. An active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to effectively communicate expressively and receptively in English with all persons via written, electronic, and verbal methods.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Knowledge of advanced statistical manipulations.
REASONING ABILITY
Possess critical inquiry skills and judgment necessary to guide faculty and students and to interact with other faculty and staff.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
If a physical therapist, be eligible for and obtain a current physical therapist practice license for the state of Michigan and be qualified for American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) membership.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Physical demands
- Stand, talk and demonstrate at a level to be understood for two or more hours at a time as required for lecture and laboratory sessions.
- Ambulate approximately 500 yards and negotiate 2 flights of stairs to get around campus as needed.
- Be able to perform physical tasks relevant to the teaching load.
- Be able and available to travel by personal vehicle or commercial transportation for distant assignments related to professional development and dissemination of research.
- Be able to be away from home for two or more days at one time related to professional development and dissemination of research.
