Position summary
The Shipping Assistant, under the supervision of the Customer Service and Marketing Representative, and the Director of the Press, manages all the clerical data entry and physical inventory for shipping and receiving the products produced by Andrews University Press.
The job requires a very high level of attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, organizational skill and ability to learn and use standard shipping software.
Because of the knowledge base that must be mastered over time to learn the job, a successful applicant will give indication of being willing to hold the job for two or three years. Preference will be given to applicants who will be be able to work during usual academic breaks.

Duties and responsibilities
- Package books and prepare for shipments daily, using company software
- Finish shipments to meet the USPS and UPS schedule daily
- Maintain a clean, organized, neat and orderly warehouse
- Move inventory from remote storage locations to the main warehouse, as needed
- Oversee the routine use and maintenance of the electric golf cart
- Maintain temperature and humidity levels in the main warehouse
- Maintain adequate stock of shipping supplies
- Maintain adequate stock of books titles in the main warehouse
- Replenish water and other supplies for Sutherland House
- Process and restock returns, exchanges and damaged or defective inventory
- Purchase postage via USPS software
- Deliver on-campus orders as needed
- Perform annual year-end inventory of all current stock
- Assist in preparing/packaging materials for promotional use at conventions and special remote site sales

- Available 2-3 hours per day, Monday through Friday, usually in the mornings, particularly on Tuesday and Wednesday
- High level of data entry accuracy is a top priority
- Willingness to double check accuracy of work
Technical competencies
Ability to master basic shipping software from USPS and UPS
Ability to manage function of the golf cart
Interpersonal interactions
Must be able to work independently in an office/warehouse separate from the main group of Press employees.
Physical demands
Must be able at any given time to move a large quantity of boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
