Position summary

Assistant - Full Professor to teach, advise and direct student projects.
Expertise in teaching reading, and/or special education and/or science is desired.  Position may require teaching in any /or all semesters including summers. Person chosen for this position is expected to be involved in research as well as teaching and supervision of student teachers or graduate internships.  A wide variety of responsibilities are expected including accreditation and assessment as required by the university and outside accrediting bodies.

Qualifications summary

-Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
-Earned doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction or related field
-Evidence of scholarship through research, presentations & publications or demonstration of strong potential for developing scholarship.
-Documented successful 3 years K-12 classroom teaching in US or Canadian schools, preferably multi-grade.
-Evidence of commitment to departmental curricular and program development.
-Teaching & supervision and/or administrative field experience.
-Ability to model effective teaching.
-Knowledge of current trends in education.
-Evidence of commitment to professional growth and professional organizational involvement.
-Evidence of collegiality in workplace and good interpersonal skills

Duties and responsibilities

-Teach undergraduate and graduate classes
-Advise students in degree and licensure requirements
-Maintain regular office hours
-Read and supervise undergraduate and graduate projects
-Serve on departmental and university committees
-Maintain an active research agenda as documented through publications and presentations (required for continuous appointment and promotion)
-Develop, implement and model appropriate standards-based assessment in courses
-Student teaching supervision; and
-Serve the university and community

Supervisory responsibilities

Supervise Student Teachers
Supervise both undergraduate and graduate projects.

Technical competencies

-Able to use and model the use of instructional technology.
-Able to use online Learning Management System(s) (e.g. Moodle)
-Able to use Microsoft Office products for required reports.

Interpersonal interactions

Must relate well to administration, colleagues, staff, and students
Must relate well to outside entities, including as personnel from local schools, the Lake Union Office of Education, and the Michigan Department of Education.

Physical demands

Must be able to:
Walk up and down stairs.
Travel to distant meetings.

Work environment

Work environment is a collegeal office and out in K12 schools. Travel is sometimes required in snowy, icy conditions.
