Faculty Mentors Needed
From August 17-23 the Student Life office will be coordinating New Student Orientation week.
Our goal is to help students adjust to their new environment by placing them into Mentoring Groups. These groups are under the leadership of current students who serve as New Student Mentors.
We are seeking twenty faculty members who would serve as a Faculty Coaches for these groups.
Here is what that 4 ½ hour commitment would entail.
1. Meet on Wednesday, August 20, from 7:30-9 p.m., with the Mentoring Group. The New Student Mentors will facilitate activities that help you get acquainted with the new students in your group. There will also be time set aside for new students to ask you questions about how to succeed in the classroom.
2. Meet three times throughout the first semester (Sept. 23, Oct. 28 and Nov. 18.) during the Tuesday co-curricular period, 11:30 am - 12:20 p.m. These will be “check-in points” with our new students. Again, the New Student Mentors will run the program. Your role will simply be to come alongside and show a helpful interest in students’ experience and progress during their first semester.
Thank you for considering this important role during the first semester. Our new students appreciate the support and interaction these Mentoring Groups provide, and we believe they make a real difference in student retention.
If you are interested in volunteering as a Faculty Coach, please contact the Student Activities Office by email at firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday, August 8th.
Thank you so much for your time and God bless!
