Berrien Springs Camera Club Jan. Meeting

   Agenda | Posted on January 5, 2015

The Berrien Springs Camera Club will meet on Wed., Jan. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Berrien Springs Community Library at Cass and Union. The program will be an inwardly focused one, trying to improve the images submitted for the club’s competitions every other month.

One of the stated goals of the club is to help members improve their photographic skills. Three judges from outside come to judge the competitions, and members often wonder why a particular photo was rejected, or given fewer points than anticipated, or perhaps given an “honor” status. On the other hand, it is well recognized that judging art is very subjective. Most club members have had the experience of later resubmitting a rejected image and having it win honors.

In January three artists/photographers will critique pictures and give reasons for how they would judge them if this were a competition. Members will join in and offer their observations and suggestions, too.

Nathan Greene, world-renowned painter who lives and works locally, will be one of the judges. Another will be Breanna Bell, a Michiana photographer specializing in seniors, families, and babies. The third will be Emmanuel St. Cloud, a Berrien Springs photographer who specializes in events, portraits, and weddings.

Each member may submit five images ahead for this critiquing session. Submission guidelines are on the club’s blog site:  http://berrienspringscameraclub.blogspot.com/

All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.
