ABOUT US
Merlene A. Ogden, Director
Phone: (269) 471-3781
ogden@andrews.edu
As an educator, administrator, and world-traveler, Dr. Ogden brings a rich life-experience to her tours. After taking her first European tour in 1960 as a young English professor, Merlene returned to Andrews University to develop study tours for students of English and History. Since 1964, she has conducted 13 such study tours and many more alumni and adult tours. In working with overseas affiliated schools since 1984, as well as with ADRA to develop an international development graduate program for its workers, she has had the opportunity to experience many cultures the world over. By now her travel family extends around the world. "I love getting acquainted with people," she says of her tours, "and introducing them to the places and experiences that have inspired me."
Cheryl Jetter, Associate
Director of the Netherlands Tour

Cheryl Jetter first toured Europe with friends in 1968 while attending Newbold College. In 1980 she returned as a graduate student on an Ogden Study Tour. Since 1982 she has been assisting with Ogden Tours while studying and teaching in the areas of the histories of art and architecture and the creative process. Through the years, her work with Dr. Ogden has made a deep impression, especially seeing how she reaches out to create a warm, family-like atmosphere. "I learned from Merlene that tours are not just about travel," she says, "but also about being someplace together." Travel allows Cheryl to nourish her strong attraction to natural and built environments, and her deep response to what she calls the 'poetry of places.' She designs her own tours to give members the time and encouragement to take in places slowly, using photography or some other means to stay with them.
Judy Zimmerman, Associate

Judy Zimmerman's European experience is rooted in her Scandinavian heritage. In 1979 she took her first trip to Europe to connect with Norwegian relatives. Since then, she has traveled widely, both on tours and on her own. In 1989 Judy signed onto an Ogden Study Tour to help guide students, and has been assisting on tours in many ways since then. Even though she made her career as an educator in math and science, Judy cites her love of history, culture, and the natural world as her impetus to see the world. To her, travel is a privilege she first dreamed of in college. "History comes alive," she says, "when you walk the very sites where it took place." Judy's love of people equals her love of travel, and she finds that helping others to enjoy their experience of travel adds richly to her own.
