Facilities

The main building of the School of Architecture was constructed and occupied by the Architecture Department in 1985, and provides accommodations for the majority of its needs. The combined architecture facilities include four studios, two classrooms, the Architecture Resource Center (ARC), a 70-seat lecture hall, a CAD lab, a conference room, administrative offices, nine faculty offices, a model shop, a photo studio, the slide collection, exhibition and jury space. In 1994 the main Architecture building was extensively renovated to enlarge the Architecture Resource Center (library) and the CAD lab. In the meantime, the School of Architecture has outgrown its original building and has temporarily expanded into adjacent manufactured buildings. More detailed descriptions of some of the existing facilities can be found under Resources on this website.

Campus Elevation of the proposed new Architecture Building.

The School of Architecture is actively working on a plan for a new building large enough for the entire program, providing for growth to 180 students and 14 faculty. It is a 4 storey building with approximately 54,000 square feet, putting all aspects of the program that are currently spread out in four buildings under one roof.  The projected cost of the building is $14,500,000 (2006).  The project program also calls for an additional $9,500,000 in endowments for student scholarships and faculty chairs.  This new building will be built on a prominent site at the north end of the campus, forming a terminus of the main north-south campus green.
