Biography:
Rhonda Root graduated from Andrews University with a BA in Art and History, then she received an MFA Degree from the University of Notre Dame in Painting. She is a practicing artist who shows regularly in local shows, as well as in Chicago and New York. Throughout her career she has chosen architecture as her main subject matter. This has included American urban architecture as well as architecture from Europe and the Middle East. Root is also involved in archeology, participating in several digs in Jordan, where she was staff artist. Her duties included doing illustrations of objects found, site illustrations, and section drawings of the found architecture as well as doing reconstruction drawings of what the building would have looked like during Biblical times. Many of these illustrations have been published in professional journals, including Biblical Archaeologist. Presently she teaches Introduction to Drawing and Art Education Methods for the Art Department. In the Division of Architecture she teaches the history of architecture lecture courses as well as serving as the slide librarian for the Division's collection of 17,500 slides. Root enjoys traveling and co-directed the Art & Architecture Tour in Europe during the summer of 1997 and participated in another archaeological dig in Jordan in 1998.
