Emergency Preparedness and Response; a Global Necessity –
This Workshop will be looking at preparedness and response from a global perspective on risk, hazards, and disasters, the book we will be using as our guide is ‘Introduction to International Disaster Management’ it provides practitioners, educators and students with a comprehensive overview of the players, processes and special issues involved in the management of large-scale natural and technological disasters. We will be discussing issues encountered in the management of international disasters, and we will look at the various private, non-governmental, national, and international agencies that assist in preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery during national and regional events.
The 8 hours of class time will concentrate on the four major phases of emergency management – mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery – included in the discussion will be information and lessons learned about Hurricane Katrina, the 2004 Asian tsunami, and SARS.
Targeted Audience -
Students in undergraduate and graduate degree, certificate, and continuing education programs and Educators dealing with disaster and emergency management, and international affairs. Security managers, designers of contingency / evacuation plans, city managers, urban planners, disaster management and emergency planning consultants, community planners, non-profit organizations, business continuity and contingency planners.
