Excellence in Teaching

Howard Thomas Goodwin earned a Ph.D. in Biology with a specialty in vertebrate paleontology from the University of Kansas in the Fall of 1990. After teaching just four years at Loma Linda University, Dr. Goodwin joined the Biology faculty of Andrews University as Associate Professor of Biology. In 2001 he was promoted to full professor.
Dr. Goodwin's professional specialty is the study of fossil and modern ground-dwelling squirrels–a highly technical field of study that informs us about life history events of the past. In just 20 years of professional scientific activity, he has produced more than 50 published contributions and has served as a peer reviewer for technical articles submitted to half a dozen different professional journals.
Dr. Goodwin also has a broad interest in the relationships between scientific study and Christian faith. For four years he was Co-director of the AU Center for College Faith. Currently, he is editing a book co-sponsored by the Center and the Education Department of the General Conference. The book's title is Biology: A Seventh-day Adventist Approach for Students and Teachers.
