Admission Requirements

Each applicant must complete a Graduate Application and submit all required materials to be admitted to the Graduate School. Additionally, the Department of Clinical and Laboratory Sciences requires MSCLS applicants to meet the following criteria and provide documentation as proof of eligibility along with the Graduate Application.

  • 16 semester credits (or 24 quarter credits) of biological sience
  • 16 semester credits (or 24 quarter credits) of chemistry
  • One college-level mathematics course, statistics preferred
  • Applicants must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in the undergraduate courses and at least 3.0 in the undergraduate cognate science (chemistry, biology, math and clinical laboratory sciences) courses.
  • The required Graduate Record Examinantion (GRE) for admission is a minimum of 800 composite (verbal and quantitative).  Students who do not achieve 800 on their GRE may be accepted under provisional status.

Documentation of United States professional certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist*. Certification may be either general or in a recognized area of specialization. Acceptable certification is defined as that offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA) sponsored by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS).

*Candidates without certification as defined above may request to be admitted on a provisional basis. Certification, however, must be obtained before completing more than 9 graduate credits, and before the student may enroll in CLSC561, CLSC562, or CLSC585. It is possible to obtain certification eligibility through Andrews University by completing the Clinical (Senior) Year of the undergraduate program in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.  Since applicants to the MSCLS program already have a baccalaureate degree, completion of the undergraduate Clinical Year Program qualifies them to take clinical laboratory certification exams while at the same time earning a second degree, a Bachelors of Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences (BSCLS).  Refer to the following links for further information:
