Brent Geraty is assistant professor of legal studies and the general counsel for Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Mich. He joined the faculty in 2000.
Geraty was born in Takoma Park, Maryland, and spent his early years in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Jerusalem. At the age of 5, Geraty’s family moved to Berrien Springs and Geraty attended Ruth Murdoch Elementary School and Andrews Academy. After graduating from Atlantic Union College with his bachelor's in history and business administration in 1990, Geraty returned to Andrews University where he completed a master’s in history in 1991.
Geraty once again left Berrien Springs to attend Yale Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctor in 1995. While at Yale, Geraty was named a Coker Fellow in constitutional law and he served as an articles editor for the Yale Law & Policy Review and as a director of the Street Law program. Geraty also participated in prosecutor’s and non-profit clinical experiences. After graduating from law school, Geraty practiced at law firms in Boston, Mass., and Portland, Maine, where his practice concentrated on employment discrimination litigation.
Geraty's duties at Andrews involve providing legal counsel for the university, monitoring and managing legal services provided by outside counsel, and spearheading the university’s legal and regulatory compliance efforts. In addition to his teaching duties, Geraty serves as the university’s primary pre-law advisor and the sponsor of the Pre-Law Society.
He is married to Shannon Ganter. They have one son and one daughter.
