Andrews Students @ 2008 April APS
This April, physics professors Clark Rowland and Tiffany Summerscales traveled to the April American Physical Society (APS) Meeting in St Louis along with physics students Ben Chase, Sereres Johnston, Jason Lee, and Jeff Riess. While at the meeting, everyone enjoyed attending the interesting talks and presentations. Jason Lee and Jeff Reiss also presented posters on their Honors Research. Jason's poster was entitled, "The RIDGE pipeline as a method to search for gravitational waves associated with magnetar bursts". His research evaluated the effectiveness of a data analysis method for finding gravitational waves (ripples in spacetime) produced by magnetars which are dense stellar remnants with strong magnetic fields. Jeff Reiss gave a poster with the title, "Cylindrical harmonic galaxy classification". In his research he attempted to classify elliptical galaxies by using Fourier-Bessel series to represent galactic images.
