Physical Therapy Department News!
Physical Therapy Department Earns Renewed Accreditation
The Andrews University Physical Therapy Department has earned renewed accreditation for 10 years! CAPTE voted to reaffirm the department’s accreditation through 2016 at it's meeting on April 20, 2007. In a phone call to Dr. Wayne Perry, the Department Chair, Dr. Ellen Price, Associate Director of CAPTE stated that Andrews University should be proud because its PT program is the first to successfully complete the accreditation process under the current requirements without having to write a single progress report! The last time any program accomplished this was in April, 2005 under the former CAPTE requirements. In response to the wonderful news Wayne Perry stated, "Andrews University has been blessed to have a dedicated, well qualified team of faculty, staff and local clinicians who work together to provide the highest quality classroom experience for our physical therapy students. The department is also fortunate to have such a talented pool of effective clinical instructors who provide internship opportunities which facilitates clinical learning along with alumni which financially support the PT Department. Together these stakeholders help Andrews University students achieve excellence in professional practice" We would like to again thank all of those involved in making Andrews University Physical Therapy Program so successful.
Physical Therapy Postprofessional Program Update
The postprofessional program is proud to announce that we accepted 21 students for our eighth class this August. Seven of those students are from Canada and the countries of origin represented by all of the students include India, Poland, China, Iran, and Pakistan. At the Canadian Physiotherapy Association national meeting held in Calgary, Alberta, 3 Andrews DScPT alumni presented their current research and at least 2 alumni will be presenting at the American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections meeting next year! The North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy also congratulated Andrews on being the top site in the country as far as numbers in the manual therapy certification continuing education courses we hold on campus 8 weeks a year. Andrews has also put more candidates through the certification exam than any other site in the country. These candidates are passing the exam at a high rate and have a high rate of passing with distinction!
