Biography:

Gyl Bateman serves as the Administrative Secretary for the Religion and Biblical Languages Department. Her willing and Christian spirit is a wonderful catalyst for the department "family" and she is affectionately considered "Mom" by many of the majors. Gyl is married and has three sons. Her oldest son, BJ, is in the Michigan National Guard and has served in Iraq, Kuwait, and Louisiana. As a Blue Star Mother Chaplain she keeps busy supporting military families and the men and women of the Armed Services. She recently had an article published in the Lake Union Herald focusing on helping families with children in the military.

Her second son, Doug, was recently accepted into the Palmer School of Chiropractic, as was BJ. They will start this July. The youngest of her boys, Mark, attends high school at Andrews Academy.

Gyl is also a practicing Psychiatric Nurse and her skills in understanding people are an added plus to her competent work in the office. 

Gyl is a cat lover and she enjoys many others hobbies including music, reading, traveling and entertaining people in her home. Many students have benefited from her gift of hospitality. She is active in her home and school as an Andrews Academy Board member, a Buchanan Church Board member and Chair of the Church Social Committee.

She is married to Bradley S. Bateman, and he is an Electronics Engineer and works as a production Installation Manager for Engineered Protection Systems in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
