Mioara Diaconu, Ph.D., MSA, MSW, Professor of Social Work and Community & International DevelopmentCurrent Research or Professional Activities:
Mioara Diaconu, a native of Romania, is an Assistant Professor of Social Work and Community & International Development on the campus of Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan. She joined the Behavioral Sciences and Social Work faculty in the fall of 2007 as the Associate Director of Community & International Development Program (CIDP). Her undergraduate degree is in Pastoral Theology (1998). She completed her master's degree studies at Andrews University: a Master Degree in Social Work (MSW) in 2002 and a Master of Science in Administration Community & International Development (MSA) in 2004. In 2008 she also completed her doctoral studies, receiving a Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington. Currently she teaches BSW, MSW, BS CID and MSA CID courses.Some of Dr. Diaconu's research and teaching areas of interest are: Forced & Volunteer Migration; Disaster Preparedness, Response and Relief; Health Issues - HIV/AIDS; Women's Issues -- domestic violence, poverty, discrimination, etc.; Human Rights & Human Trafficking; Policy; Cultural Diversity/Multiculturalism; Community Development, etc. She has been awarded numerous community and academic awards, scholarships, and fellowships. In 2007 she was inducted into Who's Who Among students in American Universities and Colleges. Her two articles written in collaboration with Thomas Watts were published in 2005 in the New Global Development Journal of International and Comparative Social Welfare.
