Fundraising Letter Strategy
If you follow these five basic rules, your fundraising letters should do well.
- Be personal. Your letter should read like a note sent to a friend (“Dear fellow wildlife lover…”). Don’t be afraid to be familiar; you are united in concern about the cause.
- State your case quickly and clearly. Don’t keep your reader guessing about what you need, and why you need it. (“Without that additional $50,000, the historical landmark that we have been trying to preserve will almost certainly be torn down.”)
- Write in the second person. Address-ing readers as “you” will get them involved in your message.

During this past year, I have been in contact with many people who have either served as a student missionary abroad or within the United States. For the last couple of months I have felt an urge to serve the Lord and fellow mankind in some capacity. This urge has become a reality in that I have been accepted into the Andrews University Missions program. Along with 11 other missionaries, I will be serving as teacher in the Marshall Islands, located 4 ½ hours west of Hawaii, for 10 months during the school year 06’-07’. I have been assigned to teach first grade this coming August. I am very excited!
I will not only be teaching my students the alphabet and numbers, but will also be involved in teaching them a better way of life through Jesus Christ. This experience will be a wonderful opportunity for me to grow and gain a broader perspective. More importantly, it represents for ma a change to present the love of Jesus Christ to those that may have never heard of Him before.
This opportunity, however, presents a financial challenge. The traveling expenses involved totals $2,700. Any donations that come in will be very much appreciated. If you would like to help-- you can make your check out to Andrews University and they will send you a tax-deductible receipt.
Thank you for all your confidence in me. Please keep me in your prayers as I go out on His mission.
