Do you have plans? Do you have aims for your life? Do you have a desire of where you would like to be five years from now? Here, in the College of Technology, we love to dream and envision our future. The better is your dream, the greater potential you will have to change the world.
It is a fantastic thing to come together and dream. We did that several years ago with our Aviation Department. It was languishing; we didn’t feel like we had state-of-the-art technology. So we set down with researchers, we read what is the latest, the greatest thing that we can do for our students. We began to envision and plan for our future. It was amazing once we had those visions and plans, how quickly things came together. Would you believe that over $370,000 was raised outside of Andrews University just by enthusiasm that was generated to build a brand new flight simulation building. And then, that building was equipped with state-of-the-art flight simulators; in fact, they were the very first flight simulators to enter the US in any university. We are proud that today we have a state-of-the-art exciting program.
Engineering is a program that we wanted to change from a two-year program into a 4-year program. We began to envision, how could we make it a really great, popular program? We set down and mapped out the accreditation process. Once that vision was there, we push that vision ahead and we got accreditation for the full 4-year program 2 years ahead of schedule. That’s an accomplishment!
What about our Digital Media photography students? We took them overseas on study tours. We sent one student on a special assignment. He was able to photograph and documents child-headed households. He was able to produce fantastic artwork. And now, the ambassador to the United States is considering his artwork. Many people around the world have appreciated his work.
Our agriculture department needed to acquire professional experience overseas. The idea to start several international projects came about and has been a great success. Our students are participating in development of an experimental demonstrational farm in Swaziland. We were able to work with a government geologist of that country to help get wells for our demonstration farm. We helped him solve the technical problems he had. With 700 wells waiting to be drilled in the country of Swaziland, our request was moved to the top. Because we reached out and helped him, all of our wells have been drilled free of charge.
It is great to envision for the future. We would love to help you pursue your dreams and help you turn your visions into reality. If you’re coming first of all to be a witness for the Lord, if you come to gain spiritual background that can be the backbone of your life, then we can help you do both things. Be the best you can be for God. The spiritual, technical, and academic aspects will all come together and you will really be able to change the world!
