50% Tuition Reduction Offered!

The Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology at Andrews University (with a Michigan, NASP and NCATE approved program) has been concerned for some time about the limited number of people who are choosing to make school psychology a career. The University decided that it will make an extra effort to attract students to this profession by offering a 50% tuition reduction for a limited time. Applicants accepted into the EdS in School Psychology program will be offered this reduction again for the 2007-2008 academic year. This tuition reduction once received in 2007, will cover the span of the Ed.S. program or three years. Once accepted, the requirements to continue the 50% reduction are the following: full-time enrollment (9-12 credits per semester) in the Ed.S. in School Psychology program; a 3.2 GPA; and must be a student in good and regular standing.

Fifteen students will be accepted on a first come first served basis. Our graduates have been very successful in finding jobs in the past. Our program has attracted students from a number of states. We have graduates who are working in California, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Arizona. We hope to attract more students from Michigan this year. If you, as practicing psychologist in Michigan, know of people who are interested in joining our profession, please encourage them to call one of our training institutions and if they are interested in the 50% reduction at Andrews University, they may call 269-471-3473 or email ecp@andrews.edu.

Demand for School Psychologists

Training in School Psychology offers an amazing opportunity for a student with a bachelor’s degree in psychology to advance in this growing field. According to the National Association of School Psychologist (NASP), “Demand for school psychologists is exceptionally strong and on the rise. As life has become more stressful, schools and communities have come under increasing pressure to provide mental health and instructional support for children and youth.”

School psychologists perform consultations involving the families and school personnel regarding the total learning environment of students. They assess students’ academic skills and aptitudes, social/emotional development, mental health, and eligibility for special services. School psychologist researches and evaluates to develop effective programs and strategies. They promote human diversity. School psychologists work within a school system to help students have the opportunity to learn and achieve their fullest potential.
