Watch out for scrambled eggs at the annual Egg Drop Contest, hosted by the Andrews University Department of Engineering & Computer Science, on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 2:30 p.m. The event is held outside of the Science Complex, with teams taking turns releasing their designs from the roof of the building. The campus and the general public are invited to attend.

The teams, both students from an engineering course and members of the community, are challenged to design and create a vehicle that will allow the egg to be dropped from the top of the three-story building and land without breaking. The top three teams, as judged by department faculty, will receive prizes.

Contest rules are:

  • The vehicle must be intact as it falls. For example, no external string should be attached to the vehicle to control flight or impact.
  • Catching devices are not permitted. The vehicle’s design must allow the egg to be easily inserted and removed.
  • There is no weight or size restriction on the vehicle, but it must demonstrate a creative “design” based on science.
