There are basically two types of financial aid; financial aid that is free and financial aid that will have to be repaid at some point. The free kind comes in the form of grants and scholarships. The other kind comes in the form of loans-there are federal and alternative loans. Applying for financial aid is quite simple. (The following information is for U.S. and permanent residents only, International students are not eligible for federal aid.)
First, complete the FAFSA:
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is your key to federal and state student aid. Even if you don't expect to take out a federal loan, we recommend you complete the FAFSA. It will allow you to be considered for other types of assistance through Andrews University's Student Financial Services office. Applications are made online. It generally takes several days for the Federal Student Aid Programs office to prepare its report, and we will need that before we can evaluate your aid request. Remember, the FAFSA will ask you to supply federal school codes for every university to which you are applying. The Andrews University code is 002238.
Second, turn in these other documents:
- Andrews University Financial Information Sheet
- IRS Data Retrieval Tool or Income Tax Transcript
Once your FAFSA has been filed and your other financial aid documents are in, the Student Financial Services team will prepare your award package. You will be assigned a financial advisor based on the first letter of your last name. Your financial advisor will help:
- Ensure that your aid package is in compliance with federal/state regulations
- Arrange a payment plan to cover any costs not financed by financial aid
- Answer any questions you have regarding your account or financial aid
Undergraduates (International as well as U.S. residents)
Andrews is very excited to offer its undergraduate students the Andrews Partnership Scholarship in recognition of their academic achievement. This scholarship affirms our commitment to partnering with families and students to achieve an educational dream in a Christian environment. This scholarship is in place to honor not only freshmen, but also continuing, transferring, Canadian, and international students. This is solid proof that we're committed to your education. This scholarship is guaranteed regardless of whether you plan to apply for federal aid. There are no applications to fill out. Undergraduate Admissions will automatically process the scholarship based on your cumulative GPA and ACT/SAT scores. If you want/need to apply for federal aid, file the FAFSA and Andrews University will also guarantee a percentage of your "need" using the same academic achievement criteria of test score and GPA. This money is composed of Federal, State, and Andrews University funds (including named scholarships). Undergraduates who are all main campus degree-seeking students, including international students, students in a degree program who are still enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and staff spouses in a degree program are all eligible.
