The Admissions Process

At least 6 months before the semester begins

  • Request a graduate application package at enroll@andrews.edu or start your application online at www.andrews.edu/apply.  
  • Submit your application as is while you gather the rest of your documents.
  • Please use the same full name throughout the admissions process as it appears on official documents.
  • Contact recommenders; inform them that recommendations should be submitted weeks before the semester begins.
  • Contact Educational Testing Services*(ETS) and request an official copy of your GRE scores or contact Graduate Management Admission Council* (GMAC)   for your GMAT scores. 
  • Students whose native language is not English or who did not complete their high school/college education in the English language are required to take the TOEFL exam to prove English proficiency*.  
  • Contact all previous colleges/universities and request official transcripts. All transcripts must be  sent directly from the school to Andrews*.
  • Activate your preVue account to track your admissions process at www.andrews.edu/future.  PreVue* allows you to track your admissions process.  
  • Application acknowledgment letter is sent from the Office of Graduate Admissions.
  • Your application will be considered for admission only after we receive all the required documents.

2-3 months before the semester begins

  • Contact any recommender who has not submitted a recommendation and request that he or she mail, fax, or email it as soon as possible. 
  • Contact any college or university that has not sent your transcript. 

Once the application is complete

  • Within 5–10 days the Office of Graduate Admissions sends your application and credentials to the relevant department.  An acknowledgment email will be sent to you that day.
  • Department admissions review committee reviews complete applications (according to department’s schedule).  Doctoral candidates might be reviewed by additional committees.
  • Department returns application to the Office of Graduate Admissions with the admission decision.
  • Email is sent to applicant with an electronic copy attached of the department’s decision. 
  • Department mails an official letter of admission decision.
  • Welcome packet is mailed to accepted students.

EDUCATIONAL TESTING SERVICE (ETS) 

The ETS is an organization that administers several types of standardized tests such as the GRE, TOEFL, among others.  Visit their website at www.ets.org.  To learn more about the GRE go here www.ets.org/gre 

GRADUATE MANAGEMENT ADMISSION COUNCIL (GMAC)

The GMAC is the organization that administers the GMAT exam which is needed for admissions into the MBA program.  To learn more about the GMAT please visit www.mba.com 

REQUIRED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY 

English is the language of instruction for all programs on the Michigan campus and at most other sites in the United States or Canada. All students whose first language is not English must demonstrate that they can read, speak, and understand English. A minimum score of 80* on the internet-based TOEFL (ibt), 550 on the paper-based TOEFL (pbt), or 80* on the MELAB demonstrates such proficiency. Students who score below these levels will be required to complete Intensive English Program coursework to achieve this score before enrolling in regular coursework. These test results will not be required when the applicant has obtained one of the following in a country where English is the spoken language and medium of instruction:

  • All education from at least the ninth grade through the twelfth grades or equivalent.
  • Four years in and graduation from an undergraduate college or university.
  • Completion of a graduate degree.

Students applying for the following programs must have a TOEFL score of at least 98 for the ibt or 93 for the MELAB.

  • MA Communication
  • MA English 
  • MA Teaching English as a Second Language
  • MAT in English as a Second Language

TRANSCRIPTS

  • Students who have attended college in the Korea, Japan or Taiwan do not need to submit their transcript in their original language.
  • Applicants that come from the British school system or French school system must submit copies of their secondary certificates. (e.g. O&A Levels or Baccalaureate secondary completion). Countries that fall under this category include but are not limited to:

PREVUE – ACTIVATION INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Go to www.andrews.edu
  2. Click on “Future Students”
  3. Click on prevue Account” graphic
  4. For your first visit click on “Activate your username now” and fill out the Username Activation pages and be sure to remember your Username and Password
  5. On the “Welcome” page, click on the link to your prevue page.
  6. For return visits repeat steps 1-3 and fill in your Username and Password
  7. For problems with your prevue account, email dba@andrews.edu





The Graduate Admissions office gathers your application materials (application form, recommendations, transcripts, statement of purpose and all other miscellaneous documents required by your program) and forwards your completed application package to the program for an admissions decision. Please refer to the Andrews University bulletin for your specific program requirements.
