The Seventh-day Adventist Obituary Index is a subset of the Seventh-day Adventist Periodical Index. The Obituary Index is produced by the Center for Adventist Research , James White Library, Andrews University, with the cooperative assistance of several other libraries. The general sponsor is the Association of Seventh-day Adventist Librarians.
The obituaries in this Index are found in a number of Seventh-day Adventist Church sponsored and published periodicals. The periodicals generally contain news and devotional material. Part of the news component is the listing of obituaries of people from the geographical area served by the periodical or in the Church at large. Local church pastors report deaths in their church to the editor of the periodical for inclusion in a later edition. Not all church members are included. Only those members for which the editor received information will be found in the magazine and therefore in this Index.
This Obituary Index covers 1850 to the current year. Most of the geographical based periodicals began after 1900. Not all geographic regions are included in this coverage. We are constantly working to add more data. Should you have questions please contact the Center for Adventist Research or send an e-mail message.
Those who wish to obtain photocopies of specific obituaries listed in this Index may visit the Seventh-day Adventist college or university library nearest them. Many of these libraries should have the periodical containing the desired obituary. Should this not be possible or unsuccessful, please contact the Andrews University Center for Adventist Research for information about obtaining photocopies.
To obtain a photocopy(s) of an obituary found in the Index, mail a request
listing the name(s) and the citation(s) gathered from the index.
Also send a check, in US funds, payable to the Center for Adventist Research.
The cost, including postage to US and Canadian addresses, is $10 for the first
name and $5 for each additional name. For example, if you want four obituaries
photocopied, the cost will be US$25 -- $10 for the first one and $5 each for
the second, third, and fourth obituary.
