James White Library - Interlibrary Loan - Lending
Policies
Libraries
We negotiate with libraries only. Individuals who would like to
request
materials from us must submit their requests to the libraries
where they
are registered as users.
OCLC:
As a member of Online Computer Library Center, we prefer
to process
requests through the OCLC Resource Sharing module.
Check the OCLC
Policy Directory for our full policy. Our symbol is EXN.
Non-OCLC Libraries:
Libraries that do not participate in the OCLC Resource Sharing
program
are asked to submit one request per form using any of the
following forms
or methods:
SDA Libraries outside North America:
A special service is offered to the Seventh-day Adventist Overseas
Academic
Libraries. For details, see Article Delivery Arrangements -
with Seventh-day
Adventist Academic Libraries outside
North America.
Do not submit a list of items in one form or letter. Requests
that have more
than one item will be returned to the sender.
We abide by U.S. Copyright Laws. It is the borrowing library's
responsibility
to keep track of the photocopies requested and pay
copyright fees as
required by law. Materials requested must be for
personal research only and
must not be duplicated or distributed.
Materials
Photocopies will be sent to any library in the world.
Books will be sent only to U.S. libraries. We send to some
selected countries,
depending on the reliability of the postal
system and according to arrangements
made with us.
We do not send electronic books or books that are labeled "Library Use Only" or "Local Circulation," bound or unbound serials,
and audiovisual materials.
Fees
Currency - U.S. Dollars. Will accept IFLA vouchers.
Please attach payment with invoice.
Articles: $15.00 for each request up to 40 pages.
Books: $15.00 per request.
Lost books: $120.00 per lost book.
Payment
OCLC Libraries - Use the Internal Fee Management program.
Non-OCLC Libraries - Use IFLA vouchers. You may also send
us
checks payable to James White Library and indicate the invoice
number
on the memo line.
We are willing to set up reciprocity arrangements with libraries
with whom there may be a balanced rate of lending and borrowing.
Delivery
Articles - U.S. Postal System, Ariel, fax.
Books - U.S. Postal System, UPS.
Loan Period and Renewal
Loan period of 44 days includes travel time.
Renewal is granted for 3 weeks if no one in the home library
needs
the book.
A loaned book is subject to recall as needed by the home library.
Waiver
We reserve the right to accept or reject a request depending on
the circumstances and our workload.
