    Resources Development Policy


            1. Description

        1.1 Courses in the curriculum are organized under the following categories:

        • Theology
        • History and Archaeology
        • Language and Literature
        • Hebrew/Aramaic Exegesis

        1.2 The Ph.D. area of specialization as described in the bulletin.

        • Archaeology (periods, sites, methodology, and field work) and history of
              antiquity (Israel and the Near East languages)
        • Exegesis and theology (Pentateuch, Prophets, and Writings)
        • Language and literature: (Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic, other Ancient Near
          Eastern languages); LXX and other ancient versions; and Old
          Testament Exegesis

        1.3 Dissertation Specialties as reported by the Department:

        • Old Testament Exegesis and Theology
        • Biblical Archaeology
        • History of Antiquity
        • Jewish-Christian Studies
        • Biblical Hermeneutics
        • Ancient Near Eastern Languages and Literature
        • Biblical Languages and Literature (Hebrew and Aramaic)
        • Biblical Ethics

            2. Resources Development Goals

        2.1 Masters Level:

          2.1.1. Standard reference works including the following:
            a. Homiletical and exegetical commentaries
            b. Essential Hebrew language tools
            c. Dictionaries, encyclopedias, and atlases
            d. Aids in sermon preparation
          2.1.2 Graduate level introductory works
          2.1.3 General works supporting the curriculum
          2.1.4 Spiritual Formation (limited)

        2.2 Doctoral Level:

          1.1.1 Advanced scholarly works that support dissertation specialties,
              including titles in English, German, and French.
          1.1.2 Works of prominent scholars
          1.1.3 Advanced exegetical commentaries
          2.2.4 Language tools for Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, Syriac, Egyptian,
              Akkadian, and others.
          2.2.5 Critical texts in the original languages
          2.2.6 All methodologies and hermeneutics (literary criticism, text
              criticism, narrative criticism, reader-response, deconstructive
              criticism, feminist criticism, social-scientific criticism, racial / ethnic
              - multicultural criticism).

            5. Selection

        The Old Testament degree programs participate in five fund lines:
        5.1 General: Bible Masters level materials
        5.2 Old Testament: doctoral level research materials
        5.3 Standing orders: selected standing orders for continuation series,
        5.4 Focused Strengths: Archaeology
        5.5 Focused Strengths: Apocalyptic Works covering the book of Daniel and
            other contemporary apocalyptic literature
        5.6 General

        The faculty of the Old Testament Department are encouraged to recommend
        titles for the library to purchase, and to indicate whether the title should be
        funded in the Masters level or the Doctoral level fund lines.
