The Center for Adventist Research is a leading documentary collection for the study of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, its predecessors and related groups, from the Millerite movement of the mid nineteenth century to the present. The Center holds publications in all formats on all aspects of the Seventh-day Adventist Church--its mission, theology, and activities--including those from official and unofficial sources. The center serves as a Branch Office of the Ellen G. White Estate, the rare material repository for the James White Library and as the Andrews University Archives and Records Center.

Fourth Annual "Ellen White and Current Issues" Symposium, April 7, 2008

We extend a general invitation to pastors in the Lake Union, religion and theology professors at Adventist colleges, scholars of Adventist studies, Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary students, and other interested persons to attend our fourth annual “Ellen G. White and Current Issues” Symposium. It will be held on Monday, April 7, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., in the chapel of the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary on the campus of Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

The purpose of this symposium is to break new ground in understanding Ellen White and issues relating to her life, ministry, and prophetic gift that have current importance. The structure of the symposium will have some elements of academic formality. Papers will be presented with a prepared response followed by a brief opportunity for questions from the floor. The presentations will later be published in a booklet that will be available at a reasonable cost. At the symposium we will also make available the published presentations from the 2005, 2006 and 2007 symposium. At the meeting there will be an opportunity to submit questions relating to Ellen White and current issues. We will attempt to discuss as many of these question as time will allow in the afternoon.

Our speakers this year are Don McMahon, William Johnsson, and Angel Rodriguez. The devotional will be provided by Andrews University President, Niels-Erik Andreasen. There is no charge for attending the symposium. Some copies of this invitation are being sent directly to area pastors, teachers, administrators, and students.

We look forward to seeing you on April 7. Though this will be an academic symposium it is our intention that it also provide spiritual encouragement and inspiration for those who attend. Be sure to download a PDF of the program for the day.

Donation of E. E. Cleveland Papers

The Center for Adventist Research is pleased to announce that beloved and esteemed evangelist, Elder E. E. Cleveland, has donated an invaluable collection from his sermon manuscripts, papers, library, and memorabilia to the Center. Elder Cleveland will be on campus this week to officially present the collection. The public is invited to attend a time of evening worship with Elder Cleveland, where he will speak on “Blessings in My Life," Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 pm in the Seminary Chapel.

Considered one of the great Seventh-day Adventist evangelists of the 20th century, Elder Cleveland has combined soul-winning with concern for social justice. He pioneered the concept of national evangelistic campaigns before satellite technology influenced gospel work globally. The first Adventist to baptize more than 1,000 people in a single campaign, Elder Cleveland still takes every opportunity to enter the pulpit and inspire new generations. In his 64 years of ministry, Elder Cleveland has been used by God to baptize more than 11,000 people.

The beautifully published reprint will be treasured by those interested in Adventist history. The next tract in the series will publish a significant manuscript by Hiram Edson recollecting his experiences during 1844.
