LIBRARY SERVICES FOR OFF-CAMPUS
STUDENTS INFORMATION FOR FACULTY |
The James White Library is committed to supporting the Distributed
Education program of Andrews University in accordance with the
Guidelines
published by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL).
We acknowledge that access to library resources
and services is an essential component of a student's college education
and appreciate the difficulties that students in remote locations
often face.
James White Library has embraced technology as a means of bridging the
gap between home and campus and is pleased to be able to
offer a variety of services to Andrews University students enrolled
in off-campus courses and their teaching faculty.

SERVICES
FOR OFF-CAMPUS FACULTY
As faculty members you are also able to access the Library's services
from remote locations. Whenever you see the Restricted
Access symbol
beside
the name of an online database or library service, simply type in your
Andrews University email account
name and password. This will enable you to move from one licensed
database to another without having to re-enter your email account
and password until you close down your web browser. The next time you
open up your browser, and wish to search one of the
restricted databases, you will have to identify yourself again.
In addition, on-campus library instruction and library tours may be
provided to your students when they attend classes held on campus
during the summer semester. Please contact Sabrina
Riley, our Instruction Librarian at x6215 to make a reservation for
your class.
HOW
WE CAN SERVE YOUR STUDENTS MORE EFFECTIVELY
In order to provide these services effectively, we need some assistance from you and ask that you provide us with the following information:
Regularly updated class schedules for off-campus courses.
Provide the Reference and Consultation
Services staff at x3283 with copies of
assignments or reading lists before you leave to teach in a remote
location - then
they will know why they are getting questions on a particular topic.
We would also ask that you:
Register your students with Graduate Admissions before the
start of your class.
The license agreements for our online databases specify that we can only
supply
access to currently enrolled students. If students are not
registered and on Banner,
then we are unable to provide them with the services they are entitled
to.
Add a link from your Distance Education web site or your WebCT
course to both
the James White Library and
the Off-Campus
Library Services web pages to
enable easier access for your students.
Direct your students to the Off-Campus Library Services web page
when you
are teaching your course.
James White Library has produced bookmarks and brochures outlining all
the services available for off-campus students. We
would encourage you to take copies of the bookmark when you are teaching
at remote sites and distribute them to your students.
Bookmarks and brochures are available by contacting Marilyn
Gane, Coordinator of Off-Campus Library Services at x6344.
