RMES - The Laboratory School
RMES has a mutually beneficial working relationship with the School of Education of Andrews University. Our veteran teachers serve as supervising teachers for students studying in the Teaching, Learning & Curriculum Department. These pre-service students are required to observe and assist in classrooms in addition to completing a semester of student teaching.
The Educational and Counseling Psychology Department provides both counseling and school psychology interns who are in the final phase of their graduate programs. Counseling interns, while under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, offer individual and group counseling services for RMES students. School psychologist interns are supervised by licensed school psychologists who are professors at Andrews University. These interns administer achievement and intelligence tests. In addition, they assist students whose behavior interferes with their academic success by developing behavior intervention plans.
RMES is blessed to be affiliated with the School of Education of Andrews University!
RMES - K-16 Collaboration
RMES has received funding for projects that benefit our students. The funding is provided by private donations as well as the School of Education. A K-16 Collaboration project must include at least two of the three university educational entities. Following are few of the most recent K-16 Collaboration projects that benefit RMES.
Homework Helpers: Students who are enrolled in the teacher training program at Andrews University serve as tutors to students who need assistance with homework. This free service is available from Monday through Thursday from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
Cadet Teacher Academy: Students enrolled at Andrews Academy who aspire to be teachers can become a Cadet Teacher. These students attend workshops conducted by School of Education faculty. They spend time each week assisting a teacher at RMES.
ESL & Literacy for International Students & Parents: Academy students receive ESL tutoring skills from the faculty of the English Language Institute at Andrews University. The trained tutors work with RMES students in need of ESL services.
