Why Study At Andrews?
Offering many unique opportunities, the Department of Art & Design is the perfect place to prepare for your career in the arts. For starters, our Art & Design programs emphasize the artistic responsibilities that come as a result of the God-given nature of artistic talents and we base our educational philosophy on the constructive potential of artistic ability. As a multicultural, liberal arts institution, Andrews allows students to become sensitive to a great diversity of cultures and ideas, something fundamental to the success of any artist, whether a historian, graphic designer, teacher, art therapist, or studio artist.
Our curriculum is comprehensive, including courses in art history and other liberal arts, which help students develop an appreciation of the cultural and intellectual contexts in which art is produced. This comprehensive education includes regular field trips to places like the Art Institute of Chicago and tours of significant locations in the Western art tradition, including Italy, Switzerland, France, Germany, Spain, and England, where museums, cathedrals, and palaces become our classrooms. These trips leave indelible memories and are an invaluable influence for our students.
Andrews students also learn from a faculty of experts, all of whom are specialized, practicing artists with extensive professional experience. Our faculty features an accomplished studio potter whose ceramic art has been featured in many publications, as well as an artist in residence, whose paintings hang in galleries in New York City and Europe. Other faculty members bring specific expertise and experience in architecture, art history, and technology.
Finally, as an Art & Design student, you'll benefit from our newly renovated Art & Design Center, which features high, open ceilings, plenty of natural light, and abundant studio space, including a large studio loft for design students. With so much to offer, Andrews Art & Design provides an educational experience that's tough to beat.
