Dr. McGarrell teaches in the areas of teacher education and curriculum and instruction.  Her teaching experiences include grades 7-12 English and Language Arts, Basic Writing, and Freshman Composition. 
Current Research or Professional Activities:
Dr. McGarrell maintains membership in the American Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies, the International Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies, the American Education Research Association, The National Council of Teachers of English, and several other professional organizations.  She has published and presented in the areas of academic service-learning and approaches to teaching writing.  Her research interests remain focused on academic service-learning, reflective practices in teaching writing, and approaches to teaching writing.
