Tammy Overstreet has a background in literacy education, which includes teaching courses and conducting teacher trainings for the Florida Conference of SDAs, the Potomac Conference of SDAs, and the Lake Union Conference of SDAs. Her elementary classroom experience includes single and multi-grade teaching experience in all grades from kindergarten through eighth grade, primarily within the Florida Conference of SDAs. She teaches many of the literacy methods courses for the TLC Department and is actively involved with the student-teacher program in preparation and supervision. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and being outdoors.
Current Research or Professional Activities:
Dr. Overstreet’s research interests include a strong emphasis on the exploration of the link between oral reading fluency and reading comprehension. She is also currently involved in research examining the link between Bible teachers’ strategies and methods and school-led spiritual emphasis activities to academy students’ denominational loyalty. Additionally, she is researching best practices for enhancing comprehension of science and other content area textbooks. Past research includes an investigation into the reasons individuals choose to become teachers.
