Mission

To develop ministry professionals who manifest spiritual/theological depth, advanced competency, academic excellence, professional leadership skills, and the ability for self-reflection necessary for exceptional service in pastoral or organizational ministry leadership within the unique context of Spanish language and cultural settings.

Competencies

The Spanish Pastoral Ministry concentration in the Andrews University Doctor of Ministry program seeks to create competency in five areas:

  1. Academic: to help participants reflect theologically on leadership issues, acquire knowledge of current issues and research related to Hispanic culture, and engage the discipline of evangelism and church growth in Hispanic culture through sociological and psychological perspectives.
  2. Spiritual and Theological Formation: to help participants integrate their spiritual and theological perspectives into the practice of ministry.
  3. Professional: to help participants learn to evaluate ministerial practices through theological reflection, form a biblical model of servant leadership, learn to use appropriate tools to analyze the needs of churches and communities, and develop competencies contributing to the strengthening of an Adventist practice of evangelism, mission, and ministry.
  4. Self-reflection: to help participants become aware of their strengths and limitations, realize the impact of self-awareness and self-understanding may have on ministry, and participate in cohorts that contribute to collegial relationships.
  5. Wordlview: to help participants develop a global view of belief, culture, and ministry.

The following learning modalities will be included in the concentration's pedagogy:
