2009 Summer Intensives Professors

Kathleen Beagles, MA comes to the Religious Education Program at Andrews University from ten years developing, editing, and training in the use of Sabbath School Bible study curriculum for children and youth. Formerly an academy teacher and administrator, Kathy has a passion to foster an increased intentionality about spiritual growth and discipleship in the local church and school, for all ages. A PhD candidate, her research is in the discipling of adolescents. Kathy will be instructing RLED610 Teaching for Discipleship, July 5-10, 2009. RLED610 Syllabus

 

Rene’ Drumm, PhD, is professor of social work and chairs the Social Work and Family Studies Department at Southern Adventist University. She has served in Adventist higher education for the past 15 years. Dr. Drumm holds a doctorate degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Family Studies from Texas Women’s University and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Michigan State University. Dr. Drumm has a great interest in social ministry and research and has published extensively in professional journals. Her current research interests include domestic violence, sexual identity, and program evaluation. This summer, Dr. Drumm will be instructing RLED679 Parenting Education & Guidance, July 19-24, 2009. RLED679 Pre-campus Syllabus

 

Curtis Anthony Fox, PhD, LMFT, CFLE, is a Professor of Counseling and Family Sciences at Loma Linda University. For the last 10 years in that position, he has taught human sexuality, marriage and the family, family life education, advanced family studies, crisis intervention, and other courses. He directs the masters and doctoral programs in family studies. Dr. Fox is a licensed marital and family therapist in California and a certified family life educator (CFLE) by the National Council on Family Relations. Calvin Thomsen, D.Min, PhD is Pastor for Family Ministries at the Loma Linda University Church. He teaches marital and family therapy and religion at Loma Linda University and Pastoral Counseling at La Sierra University. He has taught pastoral counseling and other church ministry coursework for Fuller Theological Seminary, Avondale College, and Andrews University. He has a PhD in marital and family therapy from Loma Linda University with a research concentration in social neuroscience and a DMin from Fuller Theological Seminary in pastoral theology with an emphasis in pastoral counseling and psychology of religion.
