Implement Course: Step 6

In the Implement Course step of the Doing Stage the developed plans are implemented--essentially, the course is taught. Here it all comes together for the pilot/test implementation of your course.

Andrews University recognizes that course management is a dynamic process that usually increases the workload of both instructor and students. Students have to contribute to message boards and answer questions that teachers might post daily or at least every other day. And there are the hassles that come along with working on a computer, such as a slow modem.

However, many faculty report increased and higher quality interaction among students in online courses when compared to their face-to-face sections. Despite the increased workload, instructors express high satisfaction and a strong willingness to continue teaching in the web-based mode.

So while some students and instructors may get lured with the thought that online classes are easier, often times they find the class's workload is either equal to or more than traditional classes. Some research would say that an online class takes twenty percent more time while some would argue that it is twice the work.
