Biography:
Born in Alexandria, La., Patricia Mutch earned a bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition in 1965 from Andrews University. In 1966, she completed a dietetic internship at Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, Calif. She earned a doctorate in nutrition in 1972 from the University of California, Davis. Her dissertation was titled: "The Effect of Zinc Deficiency on Lactation in Rats." She joined the Andrews University faculty in 1972.During her career at Andrews, Mutch has acted as director of the coordinated undergraduate program in dietetics, director of the office of Scholarly Research and director of the Institute for Prevention of Addictions. Mutch served as the dean of the college of arts and sciences, and from 1998 to 2006 was Vice President for Academic Administration. Mutch has also directed numerous grants and contracts, including analysis of collegiate prevention programs for the U.S. Department of Education.
She belongs to several professional associations including the Seventh-day Adventist Dietetic Association, from which she received a distinguished service award in 1988. Mutch is listed in Who's Who in American Women.
Mutch has published articles in the Journal of Nutrition, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Journal of the American Dietetic Association and the Journal of Adventist Education. She is the author and editor of numerous manuals on nutrition, addiction recovery ministries and youth prevention leadership. Mutch is the founder of a peer prevention program, Adventist Youth to Youth, which is an international movement for drug-free living. From 1988 to 1995, she served as the senior editor for substance abuse for Vibrant Life magazine. She is currently the curriculum coordinator for the Emergency Preparedness curriculum in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Work.
She is married to G. William Mutch.
