FAQ - E-mail, SPAM, Virus/Spyware
General
All faculty, staff and students are provided with an e-mail account. All e-mail inbound to campus is filtered for SPAM, viruses and spyware. All Microsoft Windows-based computers are required to have installed and current antivirus and spyware protection.
How do I access my e-mail account?
- Students have e-mail through the SquirrelMail e-mail application. SquirrelMail is hosted on a Unix system and may be accessed through an iMap client or directly at http://www.andrews.edu/email. If you are having problems accessing your e-mail through an iMap client, try accessing it direct through a web browser. If your account is accessible through the web browser, then your local computer is misconfigured. You will need to find an off-campus support technician to correct your problem. On the bulletin board in the ITS Computer Store are names and phone numbers to organizations/persons providing support in the local community. ITS makes no recommendations, so you need to check references for each organization/person.
An e-mail was marked as SPAM, but was a legitimate e-mail. How do I retrieve this e-mail?
- E-mail that was marked as SPAM may be retrieved from the SPAM trap at http://www.andrews.edu/spam. You will need to authenticate to login and then view the Trap Contents. Follow the instructions to release your e-mail.
Where can I get either antivirus or antispyware protection?
- Andrews currently is licensing antivirus software for campus departments and students from Trend Micro. Campus departments automatically have a copy of Trend Micro Officescan installed when their computer is installed. Students need to come to the ITS Computer Store to purchase a copy of Trend Micro PC-cillin. The purchase price only covers the cost of media, as the license fee is paid by Andrews University.
