Faculty Research Start-Up Funding
This is for encouragement and collaboration with departments and schools to develop a stronger infrastructure that is supportive of the scholarly activities of individual faculty.
Departmental/School support for Research
Limited financial support for planning departmental/school development of a plan and structure for facilitating the scholarly productivity of faculty and students is available. Resources are not sufficient to provide long-term support for release time, reduced loads, etc. However, support could be provided (for example) for bringing in a consultant, establishing a relationship with a peer department/school in another academic institution that you would like to use as a model, facilitating departmental planning for new and creative ways of sharing departmental teaching and administrative responsibilities to provide more opportunities for faculty, etc. The source of funding for this initiative is a research endowment provided for by Scholarly Research to enhance faculty research. We are ready to collaborate in developing a plan that presents well thought out, realistic proposals. The funding limit for any one proposal is $4,500.
Developmental Support of New/Newly Active Faculty Beyond Faculty Research Grants
A relatively small number of faculty with promise for and/or initial success in their research programs will, as funding is available, be supported for as long as three consecutive years at a level that can be higher than that provided by the faculty research grants. It is expected that they will develop proposals for external support that will be submitted before the end of the third year. New faculty that are finished with their graduate training and come to Andrews University with research/scholarly growth momentum, as well as longer term Andrews University faculty who have initiated a program that can enhance their scholarly productivity are encouraged to discuss the possibilities for extended support with the Dean of Scholarly Research.
