Andrews University Citation Appeals
Within 10 business days from the date you received your citation, submit your written appeal with the online Appeal Submission Form. An e-mail address is required to appeal online.
If you DO NOT have an e-mail address, then you can submit a written appeal at the Andrews University Department of Public Safety (located at 109 Seminary Drive on Andrews University property). Your written appeal can be in letter form or you may use the form provided at the Safety Department.
Information that must be included in your letter of appeal:
- Citation Number (5 or 15 digit number, depending on citation form)
- Your Name
- Your Andrews University ID Number (if you have/had one)
- Your Address (The response letter will be sent to this address)
Your letter of appeal will be sent to the Appeals Committee*. The Appeals Committee meets at least once per month. Your letter will be read to the committee. They will vote on your appeal and respond to you with a letter detailing what their decision is. If money is due, they will indicate how much and the due date.
If you are not satisfied with the result of your appeal, you have the right to a Second Appeal. This appeal is in person.
Procedure to Make a Second AppealWhen you receive your letter back from the Appeals Committee, you will be given a date to make payment if payment is due. If you want a Second Appeal, before the due date of your payment, you must contact the Safety Department at (269) 471-3321 between 8am and 8pm Monday through Thursday, and Friday 8am - 4pm, and notify them that you wish to make a Second Appeal. Your name and phone number will be taken and you will be called to arrange an appointment with the Appeals Committee at their next scheduled meeting. You have 10 minutes in front of the Appeals Committee.
*Appeals Committee is comprised of faculty, staff, and students. No officers from the Safety Department votes on any appeal.

For emergencies, the Andrews University Department of Public Safety is on duty 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week.
