General Studies Degrees - BA, BS, AA, AS, and Minor
GENERAL STUDIES DEGREE
A general studies degree is offered by the College of Arts and Sciences and has a flexible focus or core. It is designed for the student with career or personal goals not served by more structured degrees. A general studies degree is available through an application process only. Degree Requirements for BA and BS:
1. Fill out application form prior to taking the last 30 credits of a Bachelor’s Degree.
The approval process includes consideration of the appropriateness of the degree
package for your career and personal goals.
2. Fulfill the general baccalaureate degree requirements.
3. Complete General Education requirements as recommended for all BA/BS degrees.
4. Formulate a joint Degree Program Plan with the advisor and sponsoring departments
5. Obtain departmental sponsorship for the focus or foci of the proposed program.
6. Receive final approval from the Dean of College of Arts and Sciences.
Degree Requirements for AA and AS:
1. Fill out application form prior to taking the last 30 credits of an Associate’s Degree.
The approval process includes consideration of the appropriateness of the degree
package for your career and personal goals.
2. Fulfill the general associate degree requirements.
3. Complete general education requirements as recommended for all AA/AS degrees.
4. Formulate a joint Degree Program Plan with the advisor and sponsoring departments
5. Obtain departmental sponsorship for the focus or foci of the proposed program.
6. Receive final approval from the Dean of College of Arts and Sciences.
Minor in General Studies:
A minor in General Studies may be used in conjuction with regular degrees or with a Genreal Studies major. A GPA of atleast 2.00 is required in all transfer credits, and in all credits earned at Andrews University that are counted for the minor, with no grade below C-. At least 3 semester credits must be earned on campus in courses numbered 300 or above; no more than 5 semester credits from the major can be used in the minor.
