REGISTRATION OPTIONS

All Andrews University Dietetic Interns must register in both the Fall and Spring semesters
(Fall Registration is to be completed by August 8th. Spring registration is to be completed by December 5th). 

There are two options for registering:

REGISTRATION OPTION #1 – GRADUATE CREDIT

The intern can register for 8 graduate credits (4 credits/semester). 

 

The intern will need to fill out and send in the two Guest Student Permission to Take Classes forms (one for the Fall semester and one for the Spring semester). For easier processing, these two forms can be sent in together by the August 8th deadline. The intern will need to state on the Guest Student Permission to take Classes that they be taking the FDNT 594-001 Practicum for 4 credits (Fall Semester Computer Registration Number [CRN= 1288], Spring Semester [CRN= 938].
Once the forms have been sent in, the interns will receive an email from the Department of Public Health & Wellness telling them what their Andrews University ID number is. When they have received this information, they will need to go to www.vault.andrews.edu  and activate their username (by clicking on Username Activation on the right-hand side).

*A professional education fee of $365 and a General fee of $117 are charged for each semester a student is registered for either program option

 

 

REGISTRATION OPTION #2 – NON-CREDIT 

 

If the intern chooses to do the internship for non-credit, the intern will need to fill out and send in the two Guest Student Permission to Take Classes forms (one for the Fall semester and one for the Spring semester). For easier processing, these two forms can be sent in together by the August 8th deadline. The interns will need to state on the Guest Student Permission to Take Classes forms that they will be taking FDNT 594-002 Practicum (Fall Semester Computer Registration Number [CRN= 1289], Spring Semester [CRN= 939] for 0 credits).
Once these have been sent in, the interns will receive an email from the Department of Public Health & Wellness telling them what their Andrews University ID number is. When they have received this information, they will need to go to www.vault.andrews.edu  and activate their username (by clicking on Username Activation on the right-hand side).
*All Guest Student Permission to Take Class  forms need to be sent directly to the Department of Public Health and Wellness. The checks need to be payable to AU but sent to the department.

REGISTRATION OPTION #3–Graduate Certificate in Nutrition & Dietetics- 12 credits (Eligible for Loans)

 

We are happy to announce that for the year 2014-2015 the internship will be offered as a Graduate Certificate of Nutrition and Dietetics.  Note: For the year 2014-2015 you can choose this option, the following year the certificate will be the only option offered.

 

Description:
The certificate will provide a total of 12 credits.  Fall Semester: 6 credits; Spring Semester: 6 credits
The certificate will facilitate the applicant’s eligibility for student loans. 
When applicable, the applicant can petition to transfer up to 6 credits to the AU on-line MPH program.

  • How to register for the Certificate:

All AU Dietetic interns must register in both the Fall and Spring semesters.  (Fall Registration is to be completed by August 8th. Spring registration is to be completed by December 5th). The intern will need to apply online for the Graduate Certificate in Nutrition & Dietetics program. (we will provide this link: https://www.andrews.edu/apply  once ACEND approves it)

 

  • Description of the Internship program of Nutrition and Dietetics

FDNT 595- Graduate Certificate Fall Semester:  6 units
The Internship Program, during the fall semester, will cover the community and food service rotations.  The community rotations will take place in WIC clinics, wellness programs and school lunch programs.  Interns will be teaching nutrition classes to members of the community and will learn how to develop wellness activities.  During the food service rotations the interns will learn a variety of food service management skills; this rotation will occur in a hospital or university setting. Interns are required to pass 2 online tests in community and food service areas for the completion of the fall semester.

FDNT 596 Graduate Certificate Spring Semester: 6 units
The Internship Program, during the spring semester, will be completely dedicated to the Medical Nutrition Therapy rotations. Interns will learn how to assess and counsel patients with a variety of health conditions. Interns are required to pass a clinical online test and a comprehensive test that will cover the 3 major areas: food service, community and MNT for the completion of the spring semester.

Both the Guest Student Permission to Take Classes form and the check need to be sent back to the Department of Public Health & Wellness. Once the applicants have filled out their Guest Student Permission to Take Classes (PTC) form (see Registering for the Dietetic Internship) they will then need to send a check or money order with it payable to Andrews University. Both the Guest Student Permission to Take Classes (PTC) form and the check need to be sent back to the Department of Public Health & Wellness. This will need to be done for both the Fall and the Spring semesters.

HOW TO PAY FOR OPTION #3 –Graduate Certificate in Nutrition & Wellness

(Eligible to apply for student loans)


Once the applicants have been accepted into the Graduate Certificate in Nutrition and Wellness They will be eligible to apply for a student loan by contacting the person in charge of student’s loan. Vicki Thompson is the person in charge of student loans and she is located in the Student Financial Services Office.  She can be contacted at (269) 471-3428 or by email at vlt@andrews.edu .
If you want to pay with other funds you may send a check or money order payable to Andrews University. 
Please note that interns who are not registered and/or have not sent the payment will not be able to start the Internship Program.
